Victor Horta
The Architect of Art Nouveau

Working closely with architect and academic David Dernie, we wanted to showcase the exquisite photography of co-author and award-winning photographer Alastair Carew-Cox through the design of the book. The book discusses the many works by Horta, with nineteen buildings explored in detail as case studies, along with an exploration of the many influences on his work and his resulting legacy. Access to his most famous work, the Hôtel Solvay, had been denied for many years but was finally granted for this book. Our approach to the design was the use of very pared-back typography, with a clean, modern aesthetic, avoiding the clichés often used in books on Art Nouveau, letting the imaginative creations and skilled designs of Horta come to the fore.
