Jan Groth: Course and Volume
Grade was delighted to be appointed by the Stavanger Art Museum in Norway to create the branding, marketing materials and exhibition graphics for a show on the renowned Norwegian visual artist Jan Groth (1938–2022). Groth was one of the leading artists of his generation in Scandinavia and with his distinctive artistry, and extensive production and exhibition activities, he left a huge legacy to artists and the art community both in Norway and across the world. Throughout his long artistic career, Groth exclusively and continuously explored the relationship between line and picture plane, first and foremost in drawings executed in crayon on paper, but also in monumental tapestries made in collaboration with Benedikte Groth in Copenhagen. Our visual approach focused on the great man himself, using archive photographs of him weaving and drawing, as a young man and then as a seasoned practitioner. Grade also produced a 128-page catalogue for the show, featuring the works on display and further historical imagery.
