The world exists to be put on a postcard
Artists’ postcards from 1960 to now
An alternative history of contemporary art told through a unique collection of artists’ postcards collected by the author from the 1960s to today. The catalogue for the show ‘The world exists to be put on a postcard’ features postcards, several reproduced at actual size, designed by notable modern and contemporary artists, including Joseph Beuys, Tacita Dean, Gilbert & George, Richard Hamilton, Susan Hiller, Richard Long, Bruce Nauman, Yoko Ono, Dieter Roth, Gavin Turk and Hannah Wilke. Organised thematically into chapters, such as ‘Graphic Postcards’ and ‘Political Postcards’, this book demonstrates the significance of artists’ postcards in contemporary art. Our tiled design for the cover concept centres on Simon Cutts’s original postcard that doubles up as the title artwork for the book.
