We were delighted to design and produce this definitive illustrated guide to modern British architecture, by renowned architecture expert Owen Hatherley. Our first title for Particular Books, an imprint of Penguin Random House, this landmark book contains over 600 pages of ‘trenchantly opinionated, often witty analysis’, with nearly 400 photographs in both duotone and colour by photographer Chris Matthews. Taking several years to complete, this epic tome features reduced colour plate sections of the author’s favourite buildings. The book is typeset primarily in Calvert MT, created by renowned designer Margaret Calvert – famous for her work with Jock Kinneir in designing many of the road signs used throughout the United Kingdom, one of which, for the Tyne and Wear Metro system, also features in the book.
